Palpatine (The Official Video) :

Here is our video, known to the audience as Palpatine, We decided to use this particular name for three reasons which are .....

1.) It's an extremely peculiar name, which will then happen to intrigue the audience on what is the purpose of this name, questioning after watching the opening sequence if the main character's name is "Palpatine" or if its something we need to figure out throughout the play.

2.) Palpatine is known as a fictional character as well as the main antagonist of the Star Wars franchise created by George Lucas. This character was first mentioned in the nineteen seventy seven film "Star Wars", to which he makes his brief appearance in "The Empire Strikes Back", voiced by Clive Revill. However Ian McDiarmid stars as the Emperor in "The Empire Strikes Back", voiced by Clive Revill. Ian McDiarmid stars at the "Emperor in Return of The Jedi" and reprises the role as a younger Palpatine in the prequel trilogy. We thought this would be an extremely twist towards the title considering the strong contrast between science fiction and a physiological thriller.

3.) Lastly Palpatine, happens to be the name of a village in northeastern Illinois, northwest of Chicago, which can then suggest towards the audience that the film synopsis revolves around this particular location

Evaluation Task Seven :

7.) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product ?

Recapping on our preliminary task :

Looking back at my preliminary task I now understand how to construct a media product, in my case this is a film opening sequence called which we sim". The preliminary task demanded that I understood the basics of shot choice and selection especially involving the following the use of a shot-reverse-shot, match on action and the 180 degree rule.  ( Using these basic techniques from an in-camera exercise task I edited together the shots and this helped me understand the need for continuity using editing software.  This provided me with the essential knowledge and understanding of how my thriller opening sequence could be constructed and from the early days of my pre-planning I produced a Storyboard which reflected this.  In order to execute the film concept I had to learn how to use a digital film, a Sony NX5 camera.I edited using the software Adobe Premiere Pro.  As a result I was able to match on action my in my own shots in the editing process.  The effect of this was to provide continuity in the visual images.  This provided a foundation for me toad the necessary diegetic and non-diegetic sounds to create a soundtrack for the opening sequence and add titles.  Overall what I have learned from this process is how to successfully make a film and understand the need for capturing the correct shot selection and this enabled me to produce an edited final product.

Evaluation Task Six :

6.) What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product ?

Throughout my thriller I used a variety of different software's for example we used Blogger in order to then keep a track record on what we had been doing throughout the process, this then involved us using Google chrome as our main internet explorer in order to explore photos, trailer videos as well as researching specific information such as box office reviews on chosen films etc.

As well as this we used the "SONY NX5" camera in order to film our Thriller, as well as then edit our Thriller on the software Adobe Premium. As well as this we also used Prezie, E-Maze, Microsoft word, power point, edexcel as well as creating audio clips to create "Vlogg" entry, however personally I preferred using Prezi to Emaze.

Sony NX5 : I used this semi-professional camera, known to us as "The Sony NX5 in order to film my thriller, this particular camera can record up to six hours of footage, however this can be continued just through slipping in other memory card, which was perfect for the amount of time we needed to film.

Microsoft Excel : I used this software in order to record the amount of different props I needed in the process of my Thriller.

Blogger : Throughout the year I used blogger as my chosen software to record my media coursework throughout the year, through this I have recorded all my different inspiration aspect for my thriller, such as photos as of certain location/costume's as well as trailers from the free website YouTube  from certain films, to which appealed towards are thriller.

Adobe Premiere : I used this particular software, in order to edit our Thriller, this editing software was installed on to Apple Mac Book computers, to which I am extremely familiar with using, despite the fact I had never experienced using this editing software before. However I find this software extremely well structured, which then meant it was easy to use.

Evaluation Task Five :

"How did you attract/address your audience ?

We decided to change our name of our Thriller, to which we received help from this website
originally we wanted to call our thriller sequence "Rich Kids", however when that idea change, it then meant we then had to come up with a new name. We did this through researching distressing topics on the internet such as "self-harm" as well as researching  Masochist, which is a certain term for someone who likes to hurt themselves or others, to which we came up with the name "Mind Over Matter". We chose this name to present the idea that because the dominant character in this piece, is so intoxicated by the abuse he puts himself through, that he is completely oblivious towards the damage he doing towards his body, however we then we decided to change that title again as we felt that the name did not create the same impact to which our thriller created.

For our title sequence we needed to take into consideration the following aspects of the film :

1.) Director

2.) Producer

3.) Cinematography

4.) Make-UP

5.) Film/Shooting Crew

6.) Costume

7.) Set Design

Here is a Vlog to present how we attracted our audience :

Evaluation Task Four :

4.) Who would be the audience for your media product ?

I believe the appropriate target audience for my film would be fifteen to forty five as any younger then fifteen would find it extremely disturbing and gruesome due to the strong use of blood, as well as the abstract aspects of the film would not be as appreciated and respected through a younger age group. Our target audience would be attracted by the strong sense of action involved in the thriller genre, as well they would also be attracted to the psychological aspects involved, in the idea that throughout the whole opening sequence of the "Thriller", Calum has been abusing himself the whole time.

Our target audience would also be interested in reading novels, for example physiological thrillers, as well as detective/crime/murder mystery novels, as well are target audience would be fascinated by art, especially modern art which they would frequently go spectate at galleries, such as "The Saatchi Gallery" which is located in Duke of York Square in Chelsea, London , and there favorite artists would include Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. They would be extremely interested in music and they would listen to contemporary artists such as "Alt-J", "Mumford and Sons" as well as "Royal Blood", as well as either playing the guitar (acoustic or electric), bass guitar, piano (electric or acoustic) or percussion/drums. As well as this our target audience would be extremely respectful and appreciative towards the film industry, and would prefer to watch it live in a cinema in order to experience the real film/cinema experience, however it could be easily possible that they would watch it from a home entertainment system, such as Netflix or Lovefilm. A daily life of our target audience would consist of waking up reasonably early such as eight to ten o'clock, to which would lead to a shower and a ten minute choosing of what they were going to wear today. They would have a reasonably healthy breakfast, to which would then lead them to attend college, university or a job. They would pay attention for a majority of there time during there chosen occupation to which when they had finished they would then go either to a cafe to work, an art gallery or they would go home to either relax, cook, complete work, listen to music, or produce a piece of creative art work to which then leads towards dinner at around eight or nine o'clock, to which would then be followed by a television series such as "The Office", to either bed time music or bed time reading which then eventually then leads to sleep.

In my opinion, I believe that our thriller would appeal more to men, as in order to excuse the horrendous stereotype, but our thriller is extremely gruesome and violent to which stereotypically appeals more to males, however a vast amount of women are drawn towards action as well will enjoy the psychological aspect of the thriller which is presented towards the end of the opening sequence.

Below the Prezi presentation I have represented a Facebook mock up of our target audience. Obviously it is not completely accurate as it just an inspired mock up, however because we are led to believe that our specific target audience is extremely artistic, we can see through the comically based "cover photo", that our target audience is extremely quirky as well as extremely creative which is why they would be fascinated by our particular thriller.

Evaluation Task Three :

3.) What kind of media institutional might distribute your media product and why ?

Monday, 2 March 2015

Evaluation Task Two :

2.) How does your media product represent particular social groups ?

Our thriller is extremely male dominant throughout, this is shown heavily through our thriller only being represented by two males. This can then lead towards a stereotype being shown that men are presented as more violent then women, as well as the violence being represented in our thriller, would be suggested to seem more realistic then if it was cast with females. Our opening sequence evokes a strong sense of masculinity throughout with the strong influence of violence as well as graphic imagery involving blood, this is done to evoke towards the viewers how much pain the dominant character is willing to put himself through in order to receive that specific satisfaction that he needs, this immediately leads us towards the idea that if needs to place himself through that much torture, then he is presenting towards the audience an extreme cry for help ? This is heavily emphasized in Mark Harron's physiologically thriller comedy "American Psycho", where by because the character is a complete lunatic and can't control his emotions, it leads him towards the conclusion of killing people, which satisfies him throughout his chosen lifestyle. Our Thriller popularity would majority appeal most to a young contemporary European based audience. This is mainly because of the two white actors we used throughout our thriller, the actors portrayed a young middle class, contemporary aspect to which would automatically would appeal to a young audience, in particular though teenaged boys, due to the extremely relatable appearance as well as well as the strong sense of violence, which stereotypically appeals more to men then of women.

Below I have presented images of what the inspirational view of our opening sequence would actually be, which is an extremely stereotypical image of middle-class teenaged boys, however despite that estimation of just white middle-class boys as well as young men enjoying our thriller, the topic of violence also fascinates a much wider target audience of people from a variety of different ethnicity's.
